Burninglake Arts

Oh, the world of inspiration! If you compare with Doll 10, you will see that it has been some time since I created a doll. OOAK dolls are not my only hobby, of course, but when the inspiration for this one hit, I jumped in as soon as possible. This doll is based off of a character from a webcomic that I adore, The Dreamer. The creator decided to run a fan art contest, and was so kind to allow any kind of art in her contest. This is the first in what may end up being a line of Dreamer dolls. Wouldn’t that be something? My more recent doll projects were rather simple; I feel like this one has brought me back to the time and detail that I so enjoy putting into these: she took 24 hours to complete. This marks the first time I entered my art in a contest. I didn’t win, but I’m quite thankful for the creative outlet. Dreamer readers are a talented bunch!

Mattel’s Teresa is transformed into Beatrice Whaley, 17 year old Dreamer, who finds herself caught up in the American Revolution when she should be dreaming about who will take her to the Halloween dance. She has been given a partial facial repaint with green eyes, toned-down make-up, and soft pink nail polish. I use fine artist quality acrylic paint and varnish. Her hair has been permed and styled, giving her soft waves. She wears perhaps a fancier version of the gown of her dreams, made of gold and slate blue satin over a white lace petticoat. The overskirt is ruffled in the back and gathered on the sides. The sleeves of her bodice have gathered cuffs at the elbows and ruffles of the same color as her underskirt. Her stomacher and sleeve ruffles feature a dainty white ribbon “lace.” She holds a genuine leather tricorn hat that belongs to the dashing soldier who has taken an interest in her welfare. All clothing is hand fitted and sewn from cotton and polyester lace and satin; her shoes are black leather. She is signed and dated on her back. All clothing is not removable.
